Police have blocked off a residential road in central Ryde this afternoon (Sunday) due to a male taking up position on a flat roof.
Several officers are in attendance at Belvedere Street, close to the junction with Wood Street.
They initially responded to the area at around 14:30.
It is unclear why the individual has decided to go out onto the flat roof at the front of a block of flats.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service have been requested to attend the incident, with an Ambulance crew and operational commander now on scene.
Members of the public are being kept away from the scene whilst officers deal with the situation.

Seeking attention.
Mary poppies comes to mind.
Or a fiddler.
Taking up a position?
He just needed a gentle push in the right direction. Straight DOWN
should have just ignored him – he would have come down when it got dark and he became hungry and cold.
So many nasty comments. At that age he might well have MH problems and needs help
