A man who tried to force entry to a Jehovah Witness memorial event, allegedly with a view to sexually assaulting children, remains in police custody following the shocking incident.
It was just before 19:45 yesterday evening (Thursday) that Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary’s Force Control Room received an alarming 999 call.
It was reported that a male was attempting to gain entry to a place of worship – namely the Kingdom Hall on Buckbury Lane, Newport.
Families had gathered at the hall for a special event marking Jesus Christ’s death, but the doors had to be locked when a male located outside became ‘aggressive’.
Officers responded to the scene at speed, swiftly locating a male in a black Ford Transit van. It’s understood the van had been seen outside the hall throughout the day.
It has been confirmed that a 44-year-old man, of no fixed abode, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of trespassing with intent to commit a sexual offence.
Police are reported to have been concerned about whether any children were inside the building, and whether the man approached any of them.
The suspect has also been arrested on suspicion of breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order – meaning he is already known to authorities – and a further offence of drug driving.
He remains in custody at this time.
UPDATE SATURDAY – 44-year-old Vincent Mauder has been charged with multiple offences, and is due to appear before court.

Im pretty sure most nonces dont care…. i was walkimg through taplow in my home town when i was about 22 i still looked 15, when some guy who i knew growimg up, pulled over and asked me for directions to slough whwn he fully knew the way to slough, i took his licence plate amd reported him cos he was clearky tryna abduct a kid… thought i was a young boy. Thia guy lived next door to my nan, so he knew me and still done it… NONCES ARE CRAZY AND DONT CARE WHO THEY HURT
He needs to be put in a blast safe room,and given a hand grenade to hold with the pin removed,he will be safe till he lets go of the lever, & the grenade explodes,if it was up to me, the grenade would have NOT enough explosive to kill him outright,so he would die slowly and painfully.
Another one to be released on bail then handed a £250 fine 2 years later. Maybe the judges hard-drive could do with a check, the way they let the nonces off the hook on this island might imply something
