A 26-year-old man has been given a conditional discharge after being caught with over 300g of Class B drugs.
Tyrone Jake Clarkson, of the High Street in Shanklin, appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court last week for possession of a controlled drug of Class B – namely cannabis.
The court heard from Liz Miller, CPS prosecutor, that Clarkson had been found with a large amount of cannabis – 319g or 10.5oz – on 16th September 2018.
The estimated street value was £3,500.
Magistrates decided to issue a 6-month conditional discharge with £85 costs and a surcharge of £20 to pay.

This sentence is no deterrent, maybe a fine equal to the value of the drugs would send a message, plus a lengthy long term suspended jail sentence. He only has to pay 3% of the value of the drugs !!!!
This sentence is pathetically inadequate, considering the damage drugs inflict on our communities.
Why would you want to waste prison space for someone that is not interfering with anyone else. He has not harmed anyone in anyway.
Let’s save that prison space for the Isle of Paedo’s that seem to walk. Now there is a worthy cause for prison, not some pot head keeping himself to himself.
LOL with £3,500 worth he’s obviously dealing.
It was worth under a grand I work hard and don’t go pub if I want to have a smoke I will I got it cheap everyone knows police exaggerate everything
Are you for real? Not harmed anyone in any way – you must be one of these morons that believe cannabis has no effect on the brain. Presumably you have been taking a lot of it, did you get yours from him?
Deterrent for what? It’s only a plant like tobacco?
Conditional discharge???? Are the courts serious??? No wonder the police are demoralised. They do all the hard work and endless paperwork, and then the scumbags get off!! You couldn’t make this up!!
Agree totally. These useless judges need taking to court and put on charges for INCOMPETENCE!!!!!!
Slight correction, they are magistrates, not Judges that make these mad decisions in a Magistrates court…
And all the pedophiles that are just let loose back into the community are worse
I cannot understand why the CPS keep prosecuting cannibis cases.
The fines never equal the cost of the court proceedings.
Because it is a crime and crimes should be prosecuted irrespective of cost.
I am perfectly happy for that to be the case so long as you are willing to finance it with your personal wealth . I think we have to spend public funds more carefully on things that encourage people instead of bullying them when they are already finding it difficult to become the hero that most people long to be.
Man found guilty of same offence got 6 years in Guernsey……….maybe if Judges had a backbone they could do the same over here………instead of bowing down to all the do Gooders you say they are only young let them off with a light sentence I say give them a hard sentence like Guernsey
if all you get is a poncy fine and some do gooder whining at you, then I am going into the herb market!
sod working 9 to 5 if i can make the rent money punting weed, without fear of jail.
I work 6 days a week….
Unbelievable ! !
What is the point of having a court hearing for any offence as the sentencing appears to be extremely lenient that it is almost getting to the point that crime does pay.
The UK is the worlds largest legal exporter of cannabis, we export to the US, where it is legal in most states..the weight of sentence reflects the hypocrisy of the law.
We export a medical drug with a cannabis extract. We don’t export cannabis.
we are the worlds biggest producer of cannabis, sativex is made from cannabis for export to america for medical use, its a safe medicine, but not ok for uk residents..er hello
2018? Fair punishment, it’s not exactly heroin. Seeing tobacco and cannabis are both plants ones legal ones not all because of a chemical called THC?
It may not be heroin but it still impairs the brain, much more than smoking cigarettes do. Also, cigarettes are legal, cannabis isn’t.
