A man in his 50s has been arrested after an 82-year-old man was assaulted in his own home in Newport yesterday evening (Saturday).
Police were called to Mimosa Close off Sylvan Drive at just before 18:00 following reports of a domestic disturbance.
Officers quickly arrived on scene and found an elderly male with serious injuries.
A 56-year-old man from Ryde was arrested on suspicion of assault. He remains in Police custody this morning.
The 82-year-old’s injuries are described as serious, but not life-threatening.
UPDATE MONDAY – Police have now confirmed that 56-year-old Mark Truman has been charged with a number of offences including causing grievous bodily harm with intent, common assault, criminal damage and assault on an emergency worker.
He has been remanded in custody to appear at Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court this morning (18th January 2021).
No excuse for behaviour like this. Leave the filthy piece of sh1t to “mob justice”.
