A plethora of emergency vehicles have descended on central Newport tonight (Wednesday) in response to a developing situation, in which a male is threatening to jump into a river.
3 Coastguard Rescue Teams from Bembridge, Ventnor and The Needles are on scene near Lidl, alongside numerous police officers and multiple resources from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.
Island Echo understands that an individual is situated on a low bridge over the River Medina, outside the Medina Railway pub.
Efforts are underway to bring about a safe resolution to the incident.
It is the second deployment for the Isle of Wight’s emergency services this evening alone, with all 3 Coastguard teams and the fire service responding to Newport from another incident in Binstead. It is understood that a male was rescued and handed into the care of the Isle of Wight ambulance service.
UPDATE @ 22:05 – The incident has been resolved, with emergency services now standing down.

I wonder how much these rescue missions cost
in wages etc.
Not to mention if Ambulances are needed to
attend to ill persons needing an Ambulance.
Its time you kept your opinions to yourself.
Were you there, NO, do you know the circumstances surrounding this incident, NO.
You constantly spout absolute BS of which some is getting quite offensive.
I have dealt with these situations in real life where some have resulted in death.
Try showing some compassion to the person/persons involved and keep your worthless comments to yourself as in your words, YOU NUMPTY.
Maybe one day you will experience a long
wait for an Ambulance to arrive and then you might understand ones frustration and worry.
Until that day, you don’t have a clue, but you think you
do.
So sad.
Working in the emergency services for over 30 years you idiot so dont try telling me i dont have a clue.
Its ignorant idiots like you that people despise with your criticism on every topic mentioned, you are just an ignorant old man that thinks he knows the world but truely hasnt got a clue about a thing.
@enough is enough money should not come into it. Have some compassion.
Maybe one day you will experience a long
wait for an Ambulance to arrive and then you might understand
Until that day, you don’t have a clue.
Bless you!
Oh do shut up. Moron
Those slating you for your opinion enough is enough will be first to moan when their taxs go up or other nhs and emergency services are cut due to these sorts of avoidable call outs.
It IS an ill person!
So it was resolved, how?
That would take real journalistic skill to finish off a story, not sensational headlines for clicks
Imagine indulging this idiot. Just let it jump and ignore the idiot.
Arent you a bundle of joy
Yawn to these young men doing this. Usually on drug’s. Costing thousands. Make them pay up once they’re better….
