Isle of Wight rower Louis Sheasby narrowly missed out on selection for the Great Britain U19 rowing squad this Summer, but bounced back with strong performances at the British Junior Rowing Championships, securing 2 silver medals.
Following the Spring trials – where he was returning from illness – Louis was invited to a row-off at the GB Rowing Centre. Despite a strong showing, he narrowly missed out on a final crew place for international competition.
That outcome gave Louis the opportunity to compete at the British Junior Rowing Championships last weekend at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham, where he took part in 3 events over 3 days.
On Friday, in the Open J18 1x category, Louis placed 2nd in a time trial out of more than 100 competitors. He then won his semi-final and went on to claim a silver medal in the A Final after a powerful final push in the closing 500 metres.
Saturday saw Louis team up with Hartpury crewmate Daniel Page in the Open J18 2x event. The duo again finished 2nd in the time trial and won their semi-final. In the final, they were outpaced by a strong Windsor Boys crew but held off pressure from Northampton to secure a second silver medal.
On Sunday, Louis competed in the Open J18 4x with a reshuffled crew that had previously reached the quarter-finals at Henley Royal Regatta. The team placed 3rd in both the time trial and semi-final, but couldn’t maintain the pace in the final and finished 5th.
Louis will now take a short break before beginning preparations for next season, with the aim of making another bid for GB selection in 2026.
