Wendy Miller, a founding member of Isle of Wight charity Storeroom2010, has stepped down after 15 years of dedicated work and grant fundraising success.
Since its inception in July 2010, Wendy has been employed by the charity she was instrumental in setting up, and together with her husband Nick, tirelessly pushed Storeroom forward to make it the success it is today.
During Wendy’s 15 years she has been the driving force in the office, initially on her own until the charity was able to employ staff to assist, at which point she decided to train to become Funding Co-ordinator, as well as working in the warehouse and shop when needed.
Over her employment, Wendy relentlessly applied to funders locally and nationally for grant monies to take Storeroom’s furniture re-use service forward from a run-down shed in Medina Yard to the bright and modern premises it resides in today.
Wendy has submitted upwards of 400 bids during her tenure, successfully raising more than £750,000 before passing on the fundraising baton. Using these grant monies, Storeroom was able to set up two very successful community projects; Storeroom Education which provided skills gap training to 678 students over a 4-year-period, enabling them to gain recognised NOCN qualifications, and helping many of them find meaningful employment; also more recently, the popular Cowes Men’s Shed project.
A Storeroom2010 spokesperson has said:
“Wendy’s tenaciousness gained the Cowes Men’s Shed some substantial grants and we are proud to say that this successful project is now in its seventh year and still going strong; Wendy along with the very determined Adam, our Shed Project Leader, having proved it provides a vital role in our local community.
“Wendy’s retirement has left a hole that will be difficult to patch up, not only for her funding success.”
