Police are investigating a report of vandalism, criminal damage and attempted break-ins in Ryde after a male dressed in black targeted premises in the town centre on Saturday (4th April).
The incident occurred in daylight hours at around 07:30, when an unknown male – with his face covered and carrying a backpack – was captured on CCTV attempting to access doors at the local cinema and bingo hall.
It’s said that the individual tried multiple doors before forcefully pulling on one of the bingo hall entrances, shattering the lock and gaining entry. He then fled the scene when alarms were triggered.
The same individual is said to have graffitied the Leo Leisure building and a nearby telephone box outside the opticians on the High Street, as captured on CCTV.
Multiple bus stops across Ryde have been targeted with graffiti.
In a post shared to social media, a representative of Leo Leisure has said:
The mindless vandalism has a real impact for local businesses, with Leo Leisure confirming it has had to fork out for new locks and new keys for every staff member – and will have to spend time and money painting over the graffiti.
Anyone with information about the incident, including the identity of the person pictured above, is asked to contact Police on 101, quoting 44260158004.

Shame we haven’t got a police force targeting all the anti-social behaviour instead of chasing people doing 35 in a 30.
That’s because speeding kills and grafitti doesn’t.
Keep up the good work boys in blue.
20mph is plenty
I don’t want it to be me, or anyone in my family, to be hit by a car travelling at 35mph in a 30 zone!!
20mph is plenty
Sadly arresting people costs money, issuing speeding fines generates easy money, not that I’m condoning people who speed in cars or VANs.
I for one believe the speed limits on the Islands roads are far to high especially where national speed limits apply when you have hedgerow lined roads with twists and turns and little forward visibility, even more so a night as all unlite roads and even most 40/50mph back roads are far to high.
We should all be pushing our local Cllrs & MPs to reduce the speed limits across the Island to no more than 50mph on straight clear lite “A” roads, 40mph on “B” roads, 30mph on all other roads except within town centres & outside Schools (500 metres either side of school gates) where a 20mph limit should apply.
This would help reduce incidents involving pedestrians & cyclist or vehicle on vehicle collisions or even single vehicle incidents where speed & poor driving is the only factor involved.
Maybe the Police should also look to employ some better tactics like hidden night cameras in certain areas to catch the lunatics who thinks it ok to use the roads on the island as there personal race track at night and endangering innocent motorists, like along the B3395 between Bembridge and Brading or accross Brading Down Rd just mention a few.
Sounds a great idea.
Excuse me numpty, just because it shows national speed limit, does not mean you HAVE to go 60 mph… drive to the conditions of the road, your vehicle and your skill..and speed limits include motorcycles..
He should be easy to find as he has a distinctive cost. Make him repaint over his graffiti
With the Cop Shop round the corner obviously not enough
to deter this Numpty.
Same as Shanklin if I had a pound for all the vehicles
that park outside the Hong Kong City takeaway day and night
on Double Yellow Lines I would be rich.
The Shanklin Cop Shop is along the road.
I REMEMBER THE GOOD OLD DAYS WHEN SOMETHING
WAS DONE ABOUT IT!
A rather grainy picture, although the coat appears to be distinctive. Hope someone can identify them.
More scum
Probably looking for his brain cell.
Maybe he was trying to get in to Specsavers.
That’s a good one, he obviously ain’t the sharpest
tool in the shed.
obviously a low IQ inbred that no doubt soils himself at home for fun as well.
Probably a benefit claimer
It appears to be someone poor who can’t afford full designer
Obviously shops in Primarni.
If that’s all he can aspire to for amusement you have to wonder about his mental capacity. These are the actions of an immature & aggrieved person. Unfortunately it isn’t something the police are bothered about
