Students and staff at Medina College in Newport were ‘locked down’ this morning (Wednesday) after 2 youngsters were discovered on site.
At around 09:30, parents were contacted by the school to say that all staff and students had been placed into lockdown.
Thankfully, the incident was quickly brought under control and parents were then contacted to say the lock down was only a precaution.
Other parents have told Island Echo that the school has been placed into ‘lockdown situations’ on several occasions recently.
In a statement, a spokesperson from Medina College has said:
“Our school initiated a lockdown earlier this morning as 2 young people were on site and we were unaware of their intentions. However, the situation was managed swiftly and appropriately by school leadership in accordance with our established safety procedures.
“Parents and carers were informed as soon as the lockdown commenced and again immediately after it was lifted, to reassure them that the matter had been resolved and that normal school operations had resumed.
“We appreciate that lockdowns can cause concern, and we want to assure our community that student and staff safety remains our highest priority. We are working closely with the relevant authorities and taking all appropriate steps to support the wellbeing of our school community.”

“school initiated a lockdown earlier this morning as 2 young people were on site”
I would like to think that, being an educational establishment, during term time, a lot more than 2 young people were on site…. hopefully several hundred..
Isn’t the college full of youngsters? Must be in lockdown all the time.
Were these youths armed and dangerous
Notice since the covids how they love to use the word lockdown ..makes it oh so serious..

Maybe they intended to sign up for a college course?
