Angel Radio Isle of Wight recently celebrated its 18th year of full-time FM broadcasting.
Angel Radio began life on the Island in 1999, broadcasting from rooms above Age Concern’s offices in Pyle Street. At that time they were broadcasting on Restricted Service Licences (RSLs) which allowed for 2x 28-day slots per year.
In 2001 they began broadcasting on the Wight Cable network (now WightFibre) and moved into their premises at Love Lane, Cowes. It was in 2007 that Ofcom granted a community licence and the station began broadcasting on FM full time.
This year, the station hopes to take a step forward and begin broadcasting to a much wider audience on DAB as well as FM, thanks to the technical support of Wight Digital Radio.
An Angel Radio spokesperson has said:
“We are running our SOS appeal currently to help with raising the licence fees. These run into thousands of pounds, but we hope to be able to continue without resorting to tiresome advertisements.”
Angel Radio broadcast on 91.50FM and is the place to go to hear your favourite music from 1900 – 1969 with vintage radio shows playing all the great tunes from that era.
