The finals for Burlesque Chair Dance’s ‘Best of Burlesque’ competition took place in Blackpool on Saturday (16th November) with 2 Islanders picking up award wins.
Burlesque Chair Dance was introduced to the Isle of Wight in 2017 and has gained popularity making the Island a hotbed of talent. Now with 2 instructors, Coco Monroe and Miss Autumn Star, covering areas including Newport, Ryde, Binstead, Shanklin, Bembridge and Ventnor, it is one of the most fun ways to stay fit.
Based on Burlesque, the classes teach a dance discipline using seductive moves and impressive chair tricks that increase your flexibility, strength and stamina.
Earlier this year regional heats took place across the UK producing finalists in each category to compete for the UK title in Blackpool. The Isle of Wight dominated the Southern regional heat, winning 5 out of 6 categories.
Antonia Fry – aka Peaches Parfait – won Burlesque Chair Dance Level 1, Wildflower Von Whispers won Burlesque Chair Dance Level 2, Velvet De’Light won Miss
Vocal, Diamond Deva won Miss Variety, and Lisa-Maria Saidinayer aka Coco Monroe won Best Instructor.
Heading north at the weekend for the finals proved to be a success for 2 Islanders; Wildflower Von Whispers won gold for Burlesque Chair Dance Level 2 Dancer, and Coco Monroe won silver for Burlesque Chair Dance Best Instructor, although all the ladies delivered strong performances.
