Part of a grade II listed building in Ventnor collapsed this afternoon (Sunday) leaving rubble all over a private driveway.
The incident took place at around 14:30 and has seen a large portion of the building — located off Ocean View Road — fall to the floor below.
Island Echo understands that residents of a block of flats in the area are unable to access their properties from their primary route — although there is a back entrance.
It is believed that the property in question, Ravenscourt, had fallen into a state of disrepair over recent times.
UPDATE @ 16:10 – A cordon has been erected around the rubble, pending further inspections by building control.
More follows.
Don’t worry, Island Roads will put a barrier around the rubble and close the road for a year.
More than a year.
With all this weather it won’t be too long until
Leeson Road is closed for good.
The island is collapsing, yet they keep building on this
crumbling Isle.
Yes and if they don’t, you won’t have any nurses, doctors, caters, shop assistants, builders, etc in a few years’ time because there’s insufficient housing.
When Labour’s budget kicks in there
will be thousands of job losses on the
island, more properties won’t be required.
The island have enough derelict properties
that could be done up and used to house
people.
