Island Line services have been suspended this afternoon (Monday) due to a fire on the train track.
South Western Railway is advising that services between Ryde St Johns and Shanklin have been halted by the incident, which Island Echo understands has occurred to the north of Sandown station.
It’s thought that fire crews were called to the scene shortly before 16:00, with unconfirmed reports that the fire is related to the electrical circuit.
Island Line services are likely to be disrupted until 18:30, according to the train operator.
It was only this morning that the brand new Class 484 trains carried their first passengers after a 10-month suspension of service.
someone got voted down for saying back in service Monday, out of service Tuesday
didn’t even complete day one….pah
My opinion was not only voted down, but removed after saying the service wouldn’t last a day..
Good old Island Echo, always a supporter of free speech…..or maybe not…
How long have they had to get this right? How much money has been poured into this? Obviously nowhere near enough. MASSIVE fail on the first day. It would be hilarious if it wasn’t so embarrassing.
I don’t think pouring more money into this is how to ‘get this right’.
So what are you suggesting????
they had 10 months.to inspect repair ,and renew any faults ,on the electricity and track. or was this overlooked ? maybe their excuse was COVID 19.
9 hours in service you couldn’t make it up
You just couldn’t make this up could you !. When are we to become like normal people ?., embarrassing to be an ,”Islander” or what….our mainland cousins seem to be normal & do normal things….
Well i do hope its working in 2 weeks time when i fully intend to have a round trip on the new old trains.
The Isle of Wight is a laughing stock for public transport overpriced busses overpriced ferries a floating bridge that never works and now a train service that stops working after just 9 hours service.
Totally agree with you Ben.Sad really..3rd world countries have better traffic systems in place. And they don’t have £1250000 a year to spend on there island.Get rid of the bigwigs council Freemasons and let some money into the island….
this is what happens when you dumb down the educational standards for exams and then focus on making sure that you have enough minority and under represented groups in your company, rather than simply employing the best person for the job.
Spot on comment
Ben i agree this is a laughing stock and a good advert for any holiday makers ,our transport system is a laughing stock of UK, .this is a good advert to buy british Goods ?
Cannot believe it, what an embarrassment, laughing stock!
LoL at the arm chain engineers that have no idea what it takes to bring a service back to a working state after decades of under investment. Come on, tell us the multi-million public infrastructure project that you worked on? The biggest project you all worked on was flushed down the toilet this morning. Easy to say “ha ha it’s broken” that to get of your fat butts and do the work.
Fred, what are “arm chain engineers”?
At least have the sense to ensure that your insults are correctly spelt, as you risk becoming a laughing stock otherwise.
From what I’ve seen at Shanklin Station, the so-called railway workers spend more time in the nearby cafe than they do on the railway….
Or down on the Esplanade eating ice cream and fish and chips!
