The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have responded to Sandown Library this evening (Thursday) following fears of a fire at the historic building.
Appliances from Ryde and Sandown, plus an aerial appliance from Ryde, were called to the High Street at just before 19:30 following an alarm activation. However, crews from Ryde were stood down whilst en-route after the first pump at the scene discovered an overheated and smoking light fitting was to blame for the alert.
Firefighters from Sandown have carried out a search of the building and have not discovered any signs of fire.
Crews have now left the scene having ventilated the building.
