Bembridge RNLI and Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat have aided a broken down speedboat in Sandown Bay this afternoon (Sunday).
The D-Class inshore lifeboat ‘Norman Harvey’ from Bembridge was launched at 13:03 to assist a 16ft speedboat that had broken down at the Yaverland end of Sandown Bay with 3 crew onboard.
Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat were already on scene with the casualty vessel but as they did not have a battery booster pack, the assistance of Bembridge was requested through Solent Coastguard.
Bembridge’s D-Class lifeboat arrived on scene just 10 minutes after launching, but it was then established that the speedboat’s issue was not just a flat battery problem. The two lifeboat organisations agreed that Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat would establish a tow and endeavour to get the broken down speedboat into Bembridge Harbour whilst there was enough water to enter.
The ‘Norman Harvey’ inshore lifeboat then returned to the station and was recovered by 13:45.
