UPDATED: Ryde Inshore Rescue are conducting a search of the Solent in the area of Ryde Sands this evening (Saturday).
It is unclear at this stage what has prompted the tasking of Ryde Rescue 2 by Solent Coastguard, but the lifeboat is currently searching along the waters edge between Ryde Pier and Appley.
The tide is exceptionally low and thus far out as a result of spring tides.
The search and rescue volunteers launched into darkness at around 17:50. No other resources appear to be involved in the ongoing incident at this time.
UPDATE @ 19:25 – The search, understood to be for a potential object in the water, has been called off.
The lifeboat has been recovered to the station at Appley.
