The crew of Cowes RNLI Lifeboat crossed the Solent this evening (Monday) to give follow-up support to 2 men following a life-threatening drama that had also involved 3 young children.
Volunteer crew members were tasked to assist in an incident that had occurred across the Solent at Lepe. 3 children – all believed to be under the age of 10 – had been seen in difficulty.
The lifeboat, however, was to tend to different casualties. 2 extremely brave men had entered the water to attempt to save the children.
Upon arrival, the crew of the lifeboat found one of the men face down on the beach and struggling to breathe.
He was given first aid by a lifeboat member before being checked by a firefighter and a Lymington-based Coastguard Rescue Officer before being handed to an arriving paramedic crew.
The lifeboat, which had launched at 17:48, returned to station an hour later.
