Those heading in and out of the village of St Helens face a lengthy diversion from the start of next month as Island Roads look set to close Carpenters Road for a period of 4 weeks.
Work on a small bridge near to Oasis means that the entire main road in and out of the village will be closed between 09:00 on Monday 9th September until around 16:00 on Friday 4th October.
Motorists will have to divert via Bembridge or Nettlestone – a diversion of up to 7 miles.
You can find out more information about traffic and travel across the Isle of Wight at https://www.islandecho.co.uk/traffic-travel/.
UPDATE FRIDAY 4TH OCT – Carpenters Road, Brading will re-open to traffic at around 17:00 as structural works have now been completed – Island Roads have confirmed.
Island Roads has thanked residents for their patience during these works.

4 weeks its a bad joke !!
In China or most European Countries it would be completed in 24 hours !!
Disgusting length of time for a small job. Like a hidden camera to ‘see’ how ‘so little can be achieved by so many’.
Really think they need to employ a company to do the job quickly and properly, the length of time Ireland roads take is stupid, on the mainland they could build a motorway, in the time it takes this company to resurface a road.
Time for a public inquiry into this lot.
Is oasis open
I understand that, but why have traffic lights at other end of village at the same time!! It’s been madness on the Upper Green Road
