Police are advising motorists to avoid the Fishbourne area this afternoon (Sunday) due to traffic congestion caused by a technical issue at Wightlink’s ferry terminal.
The cross-Solent operator is advising of 60 minute delays on their Fishbourne to Portsmouth route.
It is thought a technical issue with the link span at the Fishbourne terminal is to blame.
As well as the delays on the Solent, traffic is building in and around the Fishbourne area due to several boat loads of passengers and vehicles left waiting to leave the Island.
Traffic is heavy on Fishbourne Lane and on the main Newport to Ryde road between Wootton and Binstead. Motorists should divert via Havenstreet or The Downs, if possible.
Shitelink are back to normal business
So Shitelink is now back to running it’s normal standard of service.
Another excuse from shitelink why has the new built terminal has got to do with the running of the boats being delayed when it actually affects the traffic between Fishbourne to ryde and newport
Oh dear! Hope the problem is sorted out soon. I bet it’s chaos. Chomping at the bit to get on the island and start their holiday and then this happens. Still, just aslong as the visitors wear their masks and keep their social distance from other people here, I wish them a happy holiday.
As at 14.00 hours the delay is now 1hour 45 minutes.
Just like the floting Bridge and island line, the ferries are no different when it comes to a reliable service.
It must be an isle of Wight thing….

I must say we have never encountered problems with Red Funnel in the 4 years we have lived on the island & find there’s a very reliable service

Red Funnel runs come what may and is mostly reliable, mostly, meaning they run on time mostly, but run nevertheless. My experiences of Wight-link are only ever poor. I do not have trust in them running, something is it seems always going wrong. Dont rely on them especially in bad weather. As for this bridge stuff, forget it, pie in the sky, build a better pier somewhere would be a more useful pursuit, one not controlled by a ferry company.
Wight Link years ago before they changed ownership were extremely reliable, in and out of port on time and they used to let you get on a ferry earlier than your time slot if there was room. Now, I think the service is nothing like it used to be which is a shame. Lots of delays now. When I travelled to the mainland the ferries were running over an hour late due to, Wightlink’s statement, ‘lots of traffic in the Solent’. What!?!!?

Pennyfeathers , Newport football ground, new ice rink all had planning permission not a brick layed in anger.i think you and me will both be through the pearly gates before this happens.
Its ruined already with the amount of traffic on our outdated road system. Not being negative, just facing facts that’s all.

I came back to the island last sunday and all the Fishbourne ferry were full. They dont need to wait Mr Cynic.
Last Sunday mate not this Sunday and they have a really bad record prior to Covid 19 at cancelling ferries for no legitimate reason. As a user I have found their reliability for ferries really bad. Normally blamed on an unspecified piece of equipment, or an essential member of staff. Go back over the past year yourself and see the cancellations

So if there was a tunnel/ bridge built, it would be slot easier getting the 60 thousand people who came over the last few weeks when hot weather was here to get rid of them once it stops. As ferry’s caused big traffic problems again in Fishbourne.

£250 to be delayed by nearly 2 hours today. The island will fall to its knees with these pirates running it. Friday afternoon red funnel where up to normal tricks blocking east Cowes town up now wightlink this. Come on people. We deserve better than this. There is only 1 solution as well.
