UPDATED: Firefighters are attending a laundry room fire at Melville Hall Hotel in Sandown tonight (Friday).
Crews from Ryde and Sandown were called to the scene on Melville Street off The Broadway at 22:04.
Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are using a hose reel to tackle the fire, which has broken out in a mixed tumble dryer/washer unit on the ground floor.
The building has been safely evacuated of all guests and the on-site night porter.
UPDATE @ 23:58 – The fire has now been fully extinguished by the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.
One crew remain on scene using a positive pressure ventilation fan to rid the building of any remaining smoke. They are expected to return to station shortly.
Guests have been allowed to return to the main part of the building.
