Lanesend Primary School in Cowes competed in Day Two of the 2015 Be Your Best Southampton J Rock competition yesterday (Friday), taking an impressive third place on the podium.
Lanesend captivated the audience with their interpretation of “The Selfish Giant”. With original and stylish costumes and make-up, Lanesend cleverly told story that not only entertained but moved the audience. They received awards for Performance Skill, Concept, Drama, Soundtrack, Set Design and Function, Costuming Character, Visual Enhancement, Entertainment, Lighting and Video Performance, as well as overall third place.
The school also took home the award for School Community Support, which celebrates how the school has involved the local community in creating the piece through aspects such as fundraising, and production of sets and costumes.
The event, held at Southampton Guildhall, attracted an audience of over 800 and was supported by the Police and Crime Commissioner for Hampshire, Hampshire Constabulary, Association of Chief Police Officers Criminal Records Office, Hampshire County Council, Southampton City Council, Hampshire Drug and Alcohol Action Team, HC3S and Hampshire Healthy Schools.
