A 0.34-acre piece of land on Love Lane in Bembridge, which has been at the centre of a controversial and failed holiday lodge planning application, has been put up for sale.
Owners of the leafy woodland seem to be abandoning their plans for 2 lodges after the Planning Inspectorate refused to allow Love Lane IOW to build on the land.
The whole scheme has been the subject of much protest from local residents, who celebrated their victory in May of this year, as previously reported by Island Echo.
Now, the land has been put on the open market with agents Hose Rhodes Dickson. Despite being under half an acre in size and clearly not suitable for building on, the owners are seeking £150,000 – around 10x what it’s actually worth. One of the selling points of the land is that electric and water utility supplies have already been installed.
Earlier this year local councillor Joe Robertson said:
“I am delighted that the application for holiday lodges in woodland along Love Lane has been rejected by the Planning Inspectorate.
“The accusations of local mass hysteria by the applicant were unfair and wrong. The Inspectorate agreed with the Council and over 300 residents who objected: the development would harm the rural character, threaten trees and not provide a satisfactory standard of accommodation.
“I would like to sincerely thank residents and local campaigners for all their support in resisting this poorly conceived application”.

All it would need is the 300 objectors to all put in £500 towards buying it to preserve it.
15k at best – not worth anywhere near 150k
Stupidly overpriced. Get real.
Why on earth would anyone waste their money ? The site clearly cannot be built on.. the arrogant owners have spent out a packet on actually purchasing it , plus the wasted money getting services put in… all for nothing. I’d leave it as is, so they remain totally out of pocket. Shows the arrogance and greed of these individuals, thinking that they would get 10 x the worth of the land.. don’t give them the satisfaction !
There will be Gypsies on there soon.
Let’s hope so
Well, at least it might get some of them out of Sandown.
(The Fairway caravan park).
See how the toffs like it…?
Why???
Oh how ghastly!
Hello lovely people. If everyone contributes to buy the land, a covenant can be put in place, to stop any future developement.
My pigs would love it there has any one got the owners number?
Not on our doorstep….. pathetic
