A man in the water spotted trying, without success, to regain his faulty jet ski led to Cowes RNLI lifeboat being launched earlier this evening (Tuesday).
First to raise the alarm from their Gurnard seafront home was Sarah Hughes, wife of Jason, a helm with Cowes lifeboat. Jason quickly called HM Coastguard and went to the station to help man the lifeboat.
Launched at 19:30, the lifeboat was soon on scene to find that the jet skier and his machine were being taken to Cowes by a yacht, the crew unselfishly abandoning their Tuesday night racing.
Also in the area was a kayaker which had launched from Gurnard to assist the jet skier. Because the kayak was being swept by the tide, both it and its crewman were lifted on to the lifeboat.
Eventually, both the rescued jet ski and kayak, together with their crews, were taken from Cowes by the lifeboat back to Gurnard beach.
Describing the jet ski incident later, Sarah Hughes, said:
“Out of our window I saw the jet skier apparently having trouble with his engine. He jumped in the water and then had a real struggle to get back onto the jet ski again. He began waving for help, only for people on another boat just to wave back to him!”

Jetskier = Tw4t
Paddle boarder = Well intentioned but should have called 999 and advised coastguard not tried to be a hero = Tw4t.
Please don’t mix paddle boarders up with kayakers. They are very different beings!
No VHF to call for help – not prepared for mistakes to happen at sea. I hope all involved were wearing boyancy aids.
Anyone at sea without a VHF Radio with DSC = Big Tw4t.
Kayaker and paddlboarder most at risk as generally have no sencondary propulsion system.
Ignorance no excuse, not even for comments left here.
If you want to see ignorance look in a mirror
Is that what you do?
No cos I know the difference between kayak and paddle board and don’t hide behind a made up name
Tw4t.
At least tw4ts are useful unlike you
A man who never makes a mistake will never make anything.
And he did have a VHF radio so yet again you know nothing about everything and everything about nothing
Kayaker not paddle boarder did you read the article prat
Jetskiers all show off tw ats with tiny kn obs. Idiots coming right into shore at ventnor today around people swimming with the Blakes owner telling them to get out the zone. Pootled along before speeding off. selfish pr icks the lot of em
