UPDATED: A lorry which has jackknifed and severed its lines is causing disruption to the Cowes Floating Bridge tonight (Wednesday).
Fluid has been spilt onto the carriageway as a result of the lorry getting into difficulty on the Castle Street turning from Ferry Road.
Police are on scene directing traffic and Island Roads are assessing the situation.
The Isle of Wight Council say that the Floating Bridge is operating as normal, but is unable to accept vehicles travelling from West Cowes.
The lorry is understood to have around 25 tonne of cargo on board and is thought to have exited GKN before making the turn in the wrong, right-hand Lane.
Local residents are calling for a traffic Island to be removed to prevent similar incidents – which have occurred in the past – happening again.
UPDATE @ 21:25 – The lorry has now been recovered by D H Price and the road’s re-opened.
