Islanders are being warned that even more rain is on the way with 2 yellow weather warnings in place for tomorrow (Thursday) – with an additional 70mm of rain possible.
Forecasters at IW Met Service say that heavy and sometimes thundery showers – with localised torrential downpours – will affect the Island through tomorrow evening and into Friday.
Rainfall amounts will be highly variable with just a few millimetres worth falling in some areas, whereas other locations may see a further 30-40mm of rain falling throughout the period.
On top of this, there is a rain warning in place for the early hours of tomorrow morning too.
A band of rain will push across the Island from the west, some of which is likely to be very heavy for a time. Some 10-15mm of rain is likely across most areas, but perhaps as much as 25-30mm locally.
Jamie Russell, Chief Forecaster at IW Met Service, says that under normal circumstances this amount of rainfall wouldn’t be a concern, but due to the extreme rainfall over the past 24 hours, any amount over 10mm is likely to exacerbate the flood risk.
A warning is in force from midnight until 06:00, with a 2nd warning in place from 20:00 tomorrow and into Friday.
IW Met Service has also issued a weather watch for Saturday into Sunday, which is expected to turn into a warning later in the week. It details a further 50-60mm of rainfall is possible.

Rain rain go away, come back another day….
You summed up the IWCC, SW and EA disaster recovery strategies in a single sentence – Well done.
Thanks for keeping us updated
Any chance of cleaning the drains Island roads
Lol good one, on my walk to the hovercraft most rainwater ran straight across the blocked drains, many gutters are so full of rubbish that the flow is impeded and the epic work of the Wightfibre wrecking crew has caused the water flow to the gutter to be comprised.
Island Roads is a private company made up of mainly French owners, I am fairly sure we are not something that keeps them up at night worrying. So bizarre a mainly Tory and Brexiteer council sold the roads to a French company.
Bit awkward at the moment, my lads are too busy taking
extended lunch breaks and will not get off their ar@es due to the rain
so they are sitting in their vehicles on good pay doing F’all
It’s meant to be dry on 7th Nov, by then they might have finished
their lunch break.
Lol
i am just hoping 5 chillerton farm barns are under water
For what reason??
What a ridiculous comment.
Have you ever had to deal with flooding, do you know what happens in the aftermath? When you next get your slippers wet bringing the milk in, spare a thought for many people that have lost everything, and some their lives, due to floods that are nothing to do with them.
I have not experienced it yet, but I have attended the aftermath. It is horrendous, and not to be wished on an enemy. GROW UP.
Hosepipe Ban next week
OK, so they now have a second warning of more heavy rain. They know the drains are blocked. Have they prepared for the second floods. Have they buggery, we have all payed, they don’t care, they have blown the money on crap already, none left for us
The drains need cleaning and upgrading, new housing and concrete everywhere now doesn’t help
Anyone else with Dutch family that can’t understand why UK flood defence and climate change prep are so so bad?
They are literally able to keep their entire country dry despite it being below sea level.
That because Dutch Farmers and land owners legally have to dig ditches around their land, if they don’t they get fined!
Stop complaining plebs, it’s a once in a hundred years occurrence that’s happened 2 times in 3 years.
More rain more rest farmer What did you say boy More rain more grass farmer
