The Isle of Wight’s latest Squirrel Drey has now officially opened as 8th Newport invested 5 new Squirrels into their ranks.
Squirrels are the youngest group in Scouting, aged from 4 to 6 years old. This year celebrates the fifth anniversary of the inception of the Squirrels.
Squirrels provides a brilliant opportunity for young people to take their first step into being part of Scouts, and they’ll help everyone get ready for the adventure of school too.
Sessions are packed with outdoors activities, fun, games, badges, laughter, and so much more to help our youngest members learn the skills they need for life. Of course, none of it would be possible without the support of the amazing leaders who plan and deliver such an inspiring programme.
Most Squirrels move up to Beavers between the ages of 5¾ and 6 ½.
Ali Burt, Isle of Wight Scouts Volunteering Development Team Leader said:
“We now have six Squirrel Dreys on the Island and Squirrels taking their first steps into Scouting. It’s exciting to see our young people start to learn, before they then progress on to Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers. And it’s thanks to our amazing leaders, our trained volunteers who make it possible for us to offer such opportunities.”
