Recent research has placed the Isle of Wight as the 2nd most popular UK destination on the photo-sharing social media platform Instagram, when it comes to Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The new research, which analysed hundreds of travel hashtags on Instagram reveals which Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs) and National Scenic Areas (NSAs) are most popular to Instagrammers, as well as a list of hidden gems.
Hitting the top spot was Cornwall, with the Isles of Scilly completing the winners podium at 3rd.
Recognised with UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Status in 2019, Isle of Wight residents are proud of the incredible scenery and enjoy sharing it with visitors.
An important factor for tourism, 50% of the Isle of Wight is listed as an AONB.
Richard Grogan, Lead Officer for IWAONB, has said:
“This is great news. It is particularly appropriate that the beautiful landscapes of the Isle of Wight, that have inspired artists, poets and writers for centuries, should inspire new art forms and creative expressions such as the photos on Instagram.

Will Myles, Managing Director at Visit Isle of Wight, adds:
“The Isle of Wight is a very special place, I am not surprised where the Island features on this list, those who know, know. We are very lucky to live, work and play in such a beautiful place, the work of the Island’s AONB ensures that Islanders and visitors alike can enjoy everything the Island has on offer knowing it is protected and looked after”.
The research, from online discount and deal company Bravovoucher, also placed Anglesey in Wales, Dorset and Hoy & West Mainland in Scotland in the top 10.
Protected and looked after, what a joke. Sandown is a run down crime ridden mess, Newport looks like “shop closure centre”, Ryde is now a chav town, and more green areas are being built on in Arreton, Ryde Westridge, Yarmouth, etc etc, I could go on but you all know this is all hogwash, shame no one will see this either as the censors will not let this go out I bet.
