Firefighters from stations across the Isle of Wight are tackling a field fire in Nettlestone this afternoon (Wednesday).
Emergency crews were first alerted to the field blaze off Park Lane at around 15:30, after reports were made of smoke filling the afternoon sky.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service quickly mobilised crews from Ryde, Newport and Shanklin to the scene, including water carriers from Ventnor and Freshwater. The Incident Command Unit from Newport has also been sent on what is its first shout.
Firefighters – who have donned their wildfire tunics – are currently tackling the blaze – 300x100m in size – with hose reel jets and beaters in attempts to stop the fire spreading to a neighbouring property.
Smoke is continuing to billow in the local area. Home and business owners are urged to close their windows.
Fire crews are expected to remain on scene for some time.
