The Isle of Wight Badminton Team will be travelling to Orkney hoping for their first Island Games medal since the home games of 2011.
Team IOW consists of; Mathew Honnor, Jacob Honnor, Tom Philips and Sam Gray (Men) and Anna Showan, Isabelle Honnor, Lucy Baggot, Sanga Saseendran, and Lucy Blake (Women). The team will be managed by Richard Gray and coached by Tim Honnor and Dave Anderson.
Badminton has been played at the Island Games ever since the inaugural event in 1985 with a break in 2007.
In the 19 badminton tournaments held at the Island Games, the Isle of Wight have taken 9 medals: 2 golds, 1 silver and 6 bronzes. However, no medals have been won since the home games of 2011.
In terms of Badminton, the most successful island in Island Games history is Guernsey who have won more than 30 Gold medals.
There are 6 medals up for grabs: Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, Mixed Doubles as well as a Team Competition.
The Badminton competition, held at the Pickaquoy Centre in Kirkwall, starts on Sunday 13th July with the finals on Friday 18th July. Medals will be on offer on Monday 14th and Friday 18th
