Snow fell on certain parts of the Island earlier today (Thursday) but not everywhere witnessed what was the first snowfall of the season.
Snow first started falling in the North Wight with a flurry in East Cowes captured on video by Councillor Karl Love at around 09:30. Further flurries were seen in areas of Newport and Ryde, but the wet weather conditions meant that the snow wasn’t laying.
As the morning progressed though, snow began to lay in more high-lying countryside areas such as Calbourne, Brighstone, Mottistone and Bowcombe.
Whilst not enough to see the Island grind to a halt as is usually the case, several main and secondary roads were blanketed in a layer of the ‘white stuff’.
Over the past decade that has only been notable snow on 2 further occasions; March 2018 and January 2019.
“Snow wasn’t laying” – I should hope not. Chickens lay, snow lies.
Little white lies apparently.
Unfortunately not enough to build a snowman.
