Another person has died in hospital after contracting and testing positive for COVID-19, according to the latest data from Public Health England.
It’s thought the individual was a male in his 50s, although this has not been confirmed.
To date, 91 people have died from the coronavirus on the Isle of Wight; 42 in hospital, 45 in care homes; 3 at home and 1 at Mountbatten Hospice.
The death occurred on Tuesday 27th October.
Latest data from the Official for National Statistics shows that there has been 620 cases of COVID-19 recorded on the Isle of Wight since the start of the pandemic.
It’s known that very few people are being treated at St Mary’s Hospital for the virus at this time, although an additional Intensive Care Unit (ICU) has opened for those who have tested negative for coronavirus.

Oh no. Condolences to this man’s family. So sad.
So did he die of Covid or with Covid?
Of covid
Most are with Covid, and die from other problems…
Does it matter ? He died, that means a family are missing their husband, father, brother. They really do not care if it’s of or with.
I know relatives of this man and can tell you categorically that he died FROM this awful, awful virus. No doubt there will still be people who choose not to believe reports like this and will still say that it’s all rubbish. Let’s hope that, in the future, you’re not in a position to think differently from first hand experience.
OMG, this is awful for the family and deeply concerning for all of those who are near this age bracket.
Seems many more are at risk than some assume.
Not old by any means and likely just the start of sad deaths on the Island in the long cold Winter months ahead.
Stay as safe as you can, and avoid anything you don’t have to do, until a vaccine is available to the masses.
Sadly many people of this age and younger have died of this
The public don’t want the ‘hear’ the truth.
It is like when a t errorist kills, people now have to be told they were mental, rather than they are acting on their deeply engrained beliefs, for the truth is too frightening to ‘deal with’ in todays snowflake society, hence NOTHING gets done about such.
As the song goes, “Do you want the truth, or something beautiful”, the public would rather ‘something beautiful’ hence people who tell it ‘how it is’ are unpopular, yet liars who say what the gullible wish to hear are accepted with open arms.
Hence the world gets worse, and the news is ever more watered down to prevent the real horrors ‘worrying’ the masses.
Can you put this into perspective and tell how many poor sods have died from non corvid ailments? All lives lost and someones loved ones.
Yes as they only mention covid deaths. I would like to see a chart of exactly how many people die each day and of what of not of what with. I keep reading that no more people have died this year than any previous year in this country. How can this be so if we are experiencing a pandemic, surely there would be thousands more every day.
Yes but he was in his 50’s, so hardly old.
This should worry people, yet all the media and weak public do, is try to play it all down, but surely the WORLDS Governments, ruining their economies should, or OUGHT to tell you how serious this really is.
If only we had a Government who told us the truth and we could trust.
They are all a bunch of Liars.
RIP and condolences to this person’s family. It says it is THOUGHT to be a man in his 50s well is it or not?Surely it should be affirmed before reporting it and scaring people
It’s very serious, time to shut the island off from visitors, but not for food and essential supplies. That’s all that should be coming over here, not visitors “escaping” from the mainland.
I couldn’t agree more.
Why is there so many brain wash people here and belive everything they see and told on the news.
Are we really worried about other people catching this this virus, No we are not and only thinking of our selfs.
Those who are at high risk and don’t want to catch this virus will self guard them self and keep at lease 2 mtrs from others, and those who don’t care let them mix and party with others and catch the virus.
Seems stupid keep having lock downs when airports stay open spreading the virus on a big scale.
Millions of people lifes are being ruined by lock down and losing their jobs, plus people are dying all the time of non corona death and numbers they don’t tell you and only those link to this virus..
Why should we all suffer in being lock up, losing our jobs, families going hungry.
One should enjoy their lives every day to the full and more so the old people who days are already numbered.
Why should we have to listen to you. Just do as you are asked too and stop bleating on like a spoilt brat.
Idiot. No doubt this will get voted down, like my previous comments.
When you go in shops people are still on top of each other, also many people are not wearing masks.
Even noticed a member of staff walking around in Home Bargains walking round the aisles with his mask under his chin (obviously a backward individual)
No one is taking this seriously.
Shops should be more responsible for what is happening in their stores.
Why does this comment get voted down?
One!!!Just 1 ….outa 140,000 wow!. Age 50 but not confirmed?so quit scaremongering the scared on here till you even have facts will ya jeez.yea..how about you post deaths from other more important illnesses huh.much more prevalent in grand scheme.that EVERY AGE is ACTUALLY DYING from.cases do not mean deaths.lots of hospital deaths are from other related issues…they then catch it in the germ ridden st marys, they die its then put on death form wrongly
Mostly old folk but you never post ages of deaths no more!strange that.still bejng constantly blown outa all proportion.not all hospitals are even full of covid.its vs.flue maybe
OH SHUT UP…. you really are a moron!!!!
St Mary’s isn’t germ ridden.
There are poorly people but isolated in side rooms to contain any illness or virus, hence you never hear of outbreaks or doctors/nurses dying of aids from a patient contamination etc.
However dirty visitors who don’t wash there hands etc bring so much bacteria into a healthy stable hospital its unreal.
Norovirus has taken a holiday since visitors were restricted.
Don’t blame the hard working cleaners of the hospital who put there lives at risk on infected areas to clean it for when you need help!!!!!
Very well written. Totally agree with your comment regarding ‘dirty people’ taking bugs and germs into hospitals. Your quite right, since visitors have been restricted, no Noro Virus and such. Just goes to prove how important hand washing and general personal hygiene is!!!!!!
Well said.
I hope that particular attention is paid to the lifts, as everybody and everything moves through them.
Go to the hospital
Separate lift for the ill
Seperate lift for visitors
I love people commenting who probably haven’t been there in days weeks or months but I have first handed watched how cleaners cleaned the person who left next to my dads area, anyone who knows, knows, anyone who doesn’t, keep posting dirty St Mary’s crap, it’s where your naivety will make you see things you don’t want too….
I wudnt wish covid on my neighbours cat let alone the trolls and awful people on here, who designate there life to upset or slag people off!!!
Well said. – I almost get the feeling that people are down voting comments just to be awkward or to annoy the poster. I choose to believe that rather than thinking for themselves and posting a sensible comment of their own, they just touch the “thumbs down”. As you say, Mr. Trump, ‘most likely trolls, fools, or just really nasty people. Now, watch this get voted down! 😉
Is it separate or separate??
Boring
Idiot.
As are all those who gave this comment a thumbs down.
Rumour has it that the latest a hospital worker, why isn’t Maggie Oldham making any kind of statement if this is true.
Who is Maggie Oldham? and why do you think or believe she should make a statement on behalf of the NHS Trust, surely that’s down to the Hampshire or UK NHS director if what your saying is true? Is that Maggie? If you know her can you say thank you and praise the staff looking after my dad, in a germ free hospital
Thank you
And still the map is on the Isle of Wight Tourist board website encouraging people to come from the midlands and the north. Let’s email and complain. Still never mind if Boris forces a lockdown from Monday things might be different.
