Those who intend to vote in next week’s Hampshire & Isle of Wight Police & Crime Commissioner election are reminded to bring their photo ID with them – it has to be an original document and not a copy. They should also check where their polling station is located as some have changed since the last Island-wide election in 2021. Details about where to vote can be found on the polling cards that were delivered to voters recently. However, if this has been mislaid, information about polling stations can be found here by entering a postcode. If people vote by post and have not sent in their ballot, they can be delivered to County Hall during office hours or handed in to any polling station next Thursday. However, voters are reminded of remember new rules about postal votes:
- individuals will not be allowed to hand in more than 5 postal ballot packs (in addition to their own)
- all individuals handing in postal votes to local authority offices or polling stations will need to complete a postal vote return form.
- By law, any hand-delivered ballot that is not accompanied by a postal vote return form will be rejected.
- If someone cannot get to the polling station, they can apply for an emergency proxy for certain medical, employment or loss of Voter ID reasons up until 17:00 on polling day.
More details on Isle of Wight Council’s proxy voter page. Polls will be open from 07:00 to 22:00 on Thursday 2nd May. Counting for the Police & Crime Commissioner election will take place on Friday 3rd May, with each local authority responsible for the count of their unitary or district council area. Results will be collated and announced in Southampton, where the overall returning officer for Hampshire & Isle of Wight area is located.

Voting achieves nothing!
Look at so called oven ready Brexit, more Dinghy’s have been arriving to our
shores than pre-Brexit.
I won’t be wasting my energy. I will leave it to the Sheep to vote.
That was always going to be the case and it was widely stated at the time. Unfortunately a lot of people weren’t reading the actual reports but just the news headlines, paid for largely by those with vested interests, ie, the UK elite who stood to make money from it, which they have done.
This election is for a new Police and Crime Commissioner. The current one is of the same stable that brought us the Brexit we didn’t know we were actually voting for. So if you don’t vote after knowing all that, those who do know but don’t care because it doesn’t affect them WILL vote for the same PCC from the same stable who told us the lies in the first place, and made us vote against our own best interests.
Apathy is the true enemy of democracy. If you feel your vote is wasted, which I do tend to agree with you, then the real response is to fight to change the system, as I do! But be warned, the press dogs will be set on you, hounding you, making you public enemy no1. Think about it, all the ‘just stop oil’ people that you’ve been told to hate, are fighting for you! Their strategy is because all other forms of protest have been taken away. They are the product of 12 years of Tories. And it is going to get worse, has too. Time to fight, not to give up.
Because giving up is what they like us all to do, and why they’ve been so busy for the last 14 years systematically demoralising us all and nudging the ‘nearly poor’ into blaming the ‘really poor’. The only winners of that one has been the really obscenely rich. Rees Mogg even has a book on it….disaster capitalism. He’s literally laughing at all of us.
What has ‘more dinghy’s’ got to do with Brexit?
I thought the idea of Brexit was to keep migrants out, since Brexit over a
Million plus have come in and we now have an UNELECTED migrants son
running the country!
I am thinking of moving to India. I wonder if they would let me be their leader
Some how I don’t think so!
Does anyone really care about a crime commissioner. What difference do they make … none. I predict a turnout of around 30%.
They get to have the authority to tell central government what THEY think we need in terms of crime prevention/solutions. What we need, and what we actually get is a political football, the same one that’s been played for the last 14 years. If you want difference, vote for it. The 30% you quite rightly predicted will be the 30% who voted for Donna Jones in the first place….because they have no skin in the game, it does not affect them whatsoever.
The government have introduced national identity cards by the back door! Why don’t they just be honest and bring in national ID cards across the nation, free to all those who qualify, …don’t make people with no photo ID feel like 2nd class citizens!
Voting identification has been a long time coming mainly due to widespread corrupt and multiple voting patterns in east london and the north west,
Only one person has ever been charged with impersonation for voter fraud. It’s been brought in by the Tories to make it harder for the young, more likely non-Tory, to vote.
This Country prided itself that everyone had a FREE VOTE we now have to pay for some form of Photo identification to be able to vote .
The voter photo ID is free
Sent my voting card back to sender. Will never vote again. We live in a so called democracy, but still we are forced to register to vote
So you want to drive around the Island casting your vote at all the polling stations you come across? You want to vote as Fred Bloggs and come back an hour later as Charlie Smith? If it’s the photo I/D that bothers you then send back your driving license too.
What if i’m a Ukrainian coward who dodged the draft?
What the 120000 hiding in Poland and the thousand’s of cowards hiding in the UK.
I think this year will be very different.
People don’t care anymore like they used to and it will show.
Only themselves in government to blame for this lack of enthusiasm.
We want a younger dynamic someone to take the bull by the horns and act on what they say they will do, sort out the problems quickly and get it done, no messing.
ANY TAKERS?
Political PCC’s corrupt the law. It is plain to see.
My cards went in the bin the day they arrived, wasting time voting as nothing will change!!
My vote will be based on the effectiveness of the job, and will it is performance managed .. based upon the delivery witnessed to date .. the last 4 yrs have been a complete waste of time .. don’t want/need another a Show person, Crime / Drugs / RTA’s still on the increase, despite the part time Police station.
