From national gymnastics competitions and regional regattas to agricultural shows and downhill racing, 2025 has been a standout year for dozens of Isle of Wight community groups supported by Wightlink in the Community – with applications now open for those seeking support in 2026.
Designed to support Island organisations with cross-Solent travel, Wightlink’s sponsorship scheme has helped dozens of youth sports teams, arts groups, youth groups, and environmental initiatives to access events, competitions and training opportunities on the mainland.
In 2025, the programme supported 24 sports groups, 13 arts organisations, and 6 environmental and conservation-focused groups, reflecting the scheme’s broad reach and its continued commitment to the Island community.
Wightlink has been sponsoring Island groups since 1987 and has now supported thousands of journeys over nearly four decades. Wightlink is proud of its longstanding role in helping local groups pursue new experiences beyond the Solent – particularly those involving young people.

“It’s always inspiring to see the incredible things these groups achieve – and to know we’ve played a small part in helping them get there.”
This year, sponsored groups included the Wight Gymnasts XCEL team, who have competed around the country, and Ryde Rowing Club, which has taken part in regattas along the south coast and beyond. The Isle of Wight Young Farmers Club travelled to the mainland for events and agricultural training, while the Wightlink Cycle Race Team has once again excelled with podium results in track, road and mountain bike events.

“Our riders gain so much from racing on the mainland – from building confidence to riding at national standard. “The support from Wightlink helps make that possible, and we’re proud to carry the Wightlink name wherever we compete.”
Wightlink’s sponsorship programme also extends to creative and performing arts groups, environmental education projects, and inclusive sporting initiatives.
Another 2025 recipient was Sporting Opportunities Isle of Wight, a charity offering competitive sports for athletes with learning disabilities. The group runs athletics, swimming, table tennis, indoor bowls and multisport sessions and takes part in events on the mainland.
As the 2025 Wightlink in the Community programme draws to a close, applications are now open for the 2026 scheme, with support available for travel taking place between 1st January and 31st December 2026.
