After a successful first show back in June, IFL returned to GG’s Bar & Restaurant in Newport on Saturday (2nd December) for another night of top quality martial arts. This was a fantastic evening with some incredible fights on the card, featuring 3 local martial arts athletes. Fighting out of Brotherhood MMA in Ryde and making their MMA debuts were both Robson Christie and Tom Powell. Both of these young men gave dominant performances and both ended up having their hands raised after three 3 minute rounds, and came out victorious. Lloyd Williams, also fighting out of Brotherhood MMA in Ryde, normally fights under MMA rules but switched things up and made his boxing debut. 3 fast paced 2 minute rounds saw the fighting ending fairly evenly. However, with a last minute flurry of combinations, Williams managed to gain the judges decision and win the fight. Williams is now undefeated at Island Fight League, after winning his MMA bout at IFL 1 in June with a first round TKO (technical knockout). During the many fights on the card, we also saw 3 new champions crowned. Erik Luis of Newbury Muay Thai returned to the promotion and had a powerful fight against Irakli Kancheli of Predators MMA. Under Pro-Am Muay Thai rules, Luis earnt himself the belt and is the new Pro-Am Muay Thai Champion.
Next, we saw 2 new MMA champions crowned. Charlie Hatton of Gym01 in Portsmouth had a short but technical bout against Maxim Ivanov of Savage MMA. A TKO saw Charlie crowned the new IFL Lightweight Champion. Lastly, Dan Jones of Hoddesdon Muay Thai, who also fought on IFL 1, faced a tough younger opponent in Yassine Adjadj of Team Underground MMA. Adjadj took this fight on short notice and went up 2 weight classes since his last fight in October against the Island’s Connor Tymon. Adjadj held his own against the much bigger Jones; however, Jones won the decision of the judges and earned himself the Light-Heavyweight title.
