A local entrepreneur who makes bags from recycled upholstery fabrics has received an award from former Dragons Den star, Theo Paphitis.
Samm Collins is the owner of Isle of Wight-based Samm Designs and was 1 of 6 weekly ‘Small Business Sunday’ winners back in April 2021. Theo’s weekly initiative now has over 3,300 winners. Just one part of the support for winners is having their profiles on the prestigious #SBS website at www.theopaphitissbs.com.
With the pandemic over, Samm was able to collect her award in person from Theo Paphitis at the annual Small Business Sunday event. The event was held at the Birmingham International Conference Centre on Friday 25th February.
Theo Paphitis, small business champion and chairman of Ryman Stationery, Robert Dyas and Boux Avenue, was the main speaker at the event along with Rachel Watkyn of Tiny Box, a past Dragons’ Den investment winner. Theo’s fireside chat guest was current TV Dragon, Touker Suleyman.

“It was an incredibly inspiring and supportive event with lots of information and advice for small businesses of all types. Obviously, the highlight was receiving the award from Theo himself, but finding out that there have been over 450,000 entrants to the competition since it started and that just 0.8% of entrants are winners, made me even prouder of the achievement”.
Samm recommends any small business looking for a boost from Theo to tweet him about their business on Sunday between 17:00 and 19:30 and include the hashtag #SBS. 6 lucky businesses are re‐tweeted every Monday at 20:00 and then invited to enter their profile on the new website, attend the annual #SBS networking event and take advantage of all the networking opportunities.
