The Isle of Wight had a strong presence at this year’s CRUFTS, with several dogs from the Isle of Wight Canine Association qualifying to exhibit in the Breed judging, with hopes of winning the coveted Best in Show.
Crufts is promoted at the world’s greatest dog show with over 16,000 competitors and exhibitors. The rigours for qualifying is no mean feat and can be different depending on age and breed of dog, but generally in the UK the dog has to win a first, second or third in its Class at a Championship Show within the given dates throughout the year before.
Qualifying dogs included 46 dogs of various breeds. For various reasons not all the dogs actually went and exhibited at the NEC in Birmingham between 10th–13th March 2022. From those that did, there were several good wins including Best Puppy in Breed, Best Dog in Breed and 2 Best Veterans. There were also a number of 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th places in individual classes.
