Investigations are underway following an incident in which a Peugeot hatchback destroyed the front of a house in Sandown in the early hours of this morning (Friday).
Police were called at 04:37 after a Peugeot 206 collided with a house in St Johns Road, Sandown – just opposite the Grove Road junction.
The vehicle occupants did not remain on scene and the car was left in situ.
Significant damage to the house was caused, with the French-made vehicle also smashing through a front garden fence. It is unclear how the road traffic collision occured.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary have confirmed that inquiries remain ongoing.
UPDATE ON SATURDAY – Police have confirmed that a 20-year-old man from Cowes was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage to property, driving while disqualified and using a vehicle on a road without third party insurance.
He has been released under investigation, pending further enquiries.
There seems to be a serious motoring problem
on the island.
Everywhere I go vehicles speed like they are on a
speedway, no one knows what to do when they
approach a roundabout
GIVEWAY TO THE RIGHT F.F.S
It’s about time more was done to make our
roads safe, who pays for the damage done to the
unlucky homeowner!
Why are you so hell bent of giving your ill conceived and tangential opinion on literally every article on this site. You have over 2,600 comments.
It’s one of the most pathetic things I have seen on this island. Please get a life and get offline.
You don’t have to read my comments,
nice to know I have a fan, bless you
Lol
He has an illness
It’s called Numptyitus, there is plenty of it
on the island, it’s nearly as rife as speeding.
Keep taking the pills.
If everywhere you go people are speeding, maybe it is you driving to damn slow. Oh IE why don’t you images load up ? Only the bigger headline images are loading.
Either you don’t drive, or you drive with your
eyes closed.
Must have a lot of speed involved or it’s a flimsy built extension. Try to do that to a Victorian house and the car might have come off a lot worse.
I’m surprised it’s not on it’s roof
I hope they are found and dealt with. What a shock to the occupants of the house
This is absolutely disgusting! There is only ONE reason why the driver legged it. Those poor residents having to put up with that! This is happening far too often on this island and prison time is the only answer. I will actually be checking my building insurance today to make sure THIS type of incident is actually covered! The driver will no doubt not have insurance and the owners of the house will have to pay the flaming bill! I will also be writing to my MP next week to do something about the idiot drivers going 60mph down Carisbrooke High Street. Speed bumps are the only thing that will slow them. There is a primary school, houses with the front doors directly on the road (no path), doctors’ surgery, bus stop, pub and shop, yet the speed of drivers is excessive. These same drivers are probably driving 70mph plus along the country roads and then crashing into a field or turning their cars over. I’m sick of it!
I feel your pain..but NOTHING will be done…
So true.
There needs to be speed camera’s on the island and
hefty speeding fines to deter motorists from speeding.
This should be a prison sentence but we all know nothing will happen to them..
Its pathetic he gets away with everything bet his parents are just proud of the little shit..shame he wasn’t properly hurt..
How do you know it’s a he?
Man…
