Indoor performance venues, play areas and bowling alleys will be permitted to reopen from this weekend, with close contact beauty services and weddings also set to resume.
The Government has announced tonight (Thursday) that the roadmap to recovery has resumed after a 2-week stall.
Indoor play and indoor soft play, bowling alleys, skating rinks and casinos will be permitted to reopen from Saturday.
Beauty salons, tattoo studios, spas and barbers across England will be able to offer all close contact services – including front of the face treatments such as eyebrow threading, eyelash treatments and facials from 15th August under new guidance.
Wedding receptions in the form of a sit-down meal in a COVID-secure location for up to 30 guests will also now be permitted.
The piloting of a small number of sporting events to test the safe return of spectators will resume from Saturday also with a view to reopening competition venues for sports fans, with social distancing measures in place from 1st October.
A number of pilots will now take place at event venues across the country to help plan how best to restart indoor business events and implement social distancing practices. Business events and conferences will be permitted to resume from 1st October provided rates of infection remain at current levels.
The Government has also announced a series of tough new enforcement measures targeting the most serious breaches of social distancing restrictions. Fines for repeatedly not wearing face coverings where mandated will be significantly increased in the coming weeks, and on the spot fines for hosting or facilitating illegal gatherings of more than 30 people will be introduced.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson said:
“Most people in this country are following the rules and doing their bit to control the virus, but we must remain focused and we cannot be complacent. That is why we are strengthening the enforcement powers available to use against those who repeatedly flout the rules.
“At every stage I have said our plan to reopen society and the economy is conditional and that it relies on continued progress against the virus.
“Today, we are able to announce some further changes which will allow more people to return to work and the public to get back to more of the things they have missed. However, as I have always said, we will not hesitate to put on the brakes if required, or to continue to implement local measures to help to control the spread of the virus”.
Nightclubs, dance halls, and discotheques, as well as sexual entertainment venues and hostess bars, remain closed in law.

Yey just as cases are going up, makes perfect sense
Their not going up .
Don’t you read the news
THEY’RE (short for ‘they are’). And yes… they are.
But be fair Ed, how can you expect a woman to get through a day without having dots painted on her nails, or being sprayed orange, or having eyebrows removed and painted back again?
Why, whenever we are allowed a little more freedom, do you lead the item with a picture of a triumphant PM, whilst campaigning for election. His track record throughout this virus, has been totally inept, and any success has been made in spite of his efforts, rather than because of them. He should check his ability to see the big picture. As he knows, Barnard Castle, would be an ideal trip, to help him have a better view of the shambles, he has presided over.
His only fault is being the ONLY Western leader to put HIS own people and country first. A no-no with the naive and brainwashed, yet thankfully as with Brexit, the populace see through the biased media, and vote correctly, hence Trump is ‘in’ and we are ‘out’.
Because this page loves to kiss Bob and BoJo’s arse. Simple as that really.
Eye eye
In my view this decision reflects a change of attitude by the Government. The bad economic news this week has forced the PMs hand to forge ahead with his plan to further loosen restrictions and against the backdrop of an up-tick in Covid cases across the UK in recent weeks. He is now more reliant than ever on the public complying with social distancing and mask wearing, hence the increase in enforcement fines. Needs to make mask wearing mandatory in all busy public areas, indoors and out, including busy beaches.
The economy grew by 9% last month .I’ve never had so much work .
Economy shrunk by 20.4% gross in Q2. Officially in recession and going to take at least a year to get back anywhere near pre-Covid levels. At same time the UK has had more new Covid cases in the last 24-hrs than experienced in 2-months. Well done if you are in a business that is starting to recover, best of luck though with it continuing.
But how many deaths.? Doesn’t matter infections if there’s no deaths. 97.4% of recovery. And you are crying like a baby, really!
Missing my point. I’m highlighting the dilemma the Government now finds itself in between poor economic results v case increase. Can they really afford to put us all back into lockdown? The impact of Covid isn’t limited to death. Just getting ill from it can take time to recover. You are very small minded to focus on just that statistic.
Getting the flu takes time to recovery, what are you on about!?
Are you on something?
That’s because of all the new tattoos being done since restrictions were lifted.!!
Yes because tattoos are a life and death necessity aren’t they….NOT! Good luck to anyone who is self employed and has seen their business shut down due to CV19 , reopen and start seeing an income once more. But we have to realise until a vaccine is found and this virus is eradicated unfortunately some businesses will always be at risk of having to close again due to the nature and close contact with their paying public.
If all those places are opening then close all the pubs, most are not sticking to the guidelines at all, I think the council should be stepping inspections and have there licence revoked for 6 months if they have not complied.
EVERYONE MUST WEAR A MASK OR A FACE COVERING TO HELP PREVENT THIS VIRUS FROM BEING WITH US INDEFINITELY. Only those with a GPs exception letter should be excluded. End of, no ifs no buts. Masks should also be mandatory for all shop workers, no exceptions, only those with a GP letter. Young boys have been reportedly not wearing a covering on buses, in shops etc. No face covering no ride on the bus or deny them entry into the shop. Simples! People have got to start wising up, none of this “it’s all hype and lies sh*t” they are not that unpleasant to wear and they have now been proved to be crucial in the fight to eliminate COVID along with hand washing and social distancing.
Agree! Its the people who are listening to all these claims on social media that its not true…..but its them people who are spreading it around because they refused to believe this is real.
I mean how do all these thousands of people pass away and get sick if there is not a new disease.
I no people that have lost to the fight of this and it is nasty wear your masks and stay safe!!
you haven’t been listening, stopping someone with a disability is against the law. So they can come in,and there’s nothing you can do about it! It’s on the gov website. Don’t need a letter. Opinions matter, you still follow these liars, I told you they were lying about the figures of death, you said stop spreading lies, well I was right again! Though I understand why you believe them ( and you don’t) I think you need to take a step back, look at the evidence. The lies, the things that don’t make sense ( who can wear masks and who don’t need to) it’s madness!! I only keep coming back when what I said is true! I want to be wrong! And in a month we are back to our lives, but it isn’t going to happen. If it does, then laugh at me,say I’m a conspiracy fool, and I will laugh with you. But please, look at the madness of it all. We will get one shot at this ,to stop this madness,we all want our lives back.
Mr J I agree with you that extreme panic behaviour regarding Covid does not help anyone. At the same time we can’t just ignore it whilst a vaccine isn’t available. Over 21 million cases worldwide. Not everyone is lying.
I don’t ‘follow’ anyone as you so inaccurately put it. I have my own opinions and I didn’t come down in the last shower! You have posted all along that this virus is fake and all the countries leaders around the world are liars. I really don’t know what to make of you, either you say these things just to stir up a reaction or maybe you genuinely think COVID is all made up? It’s a case of you need to wake up, wise up and get real.
I have never said the virus is fake, what is fake is the way it has been reported to us all. I’m not here to wind anyone up, this is far more serious then a wind up! I’ve said things, like they are lying about the deaths and I turned out to be right again! I just hope you and all that think I’m crazy just remember me when you realise what was said by me and a few others was true. And you will be responsible for the controlled and restricted life all our children and future children will have to live by. I will have a clear conscience.
So China have been asked to wear masks since around 1984, specifically in public. They have continuously worn masks since the initial SARS Outbreak in 2002. Meaning Chinese people wore masks well before Covid-19 outbreak. So if they’re so reliable and save lives, how did the virus spread like wild fire, in a country, where masks have been mandatory for over 18 years?
That’s because masks on there own won’t stop a virus. Social distancing and other common sense approaches need to be applied. Even then this may only slow a spread not eliminate it.
My understanding of why the Chinese wear masks is due to all the crap being put into the air by factory’s and the huge number of vehicles they have on their roads. Let’s not forget who caused this pandemic, so no more talk of China. They have got a hell of a lot to answer for.
This situation is just a mess. People travelling abroad, what the hell are they on? This is not the right time for an overseas holiday. Some may disagree but it’s the truth. This virus will be with us until a vaccine can be created, until then EVERYONE needs to take responsibility for themselves and start LISTENING! Opening up more businesses has got to be tried, these businesses are people’s livelihoods, not sure how long they will remain open, this is down to everyone strictly following the guidelines.
