Every team has a few stand-out players that will remain in the history books for their footballing achievements. Without a doubt, French football player Bacary Sagna will be one of those players, because the achievements he had while playing for Premier League team Arsenal have been incredible.
Playing For Arsenal
Sagna joined the team in 2007 and got off to a great start when the team beat Benclirbirligi 3-0 in his debut game. He stayed with the team for a further 7 years after this and in that time built up an impressive array of statistics and achievements. In fact, he scored his first ever goal for Arsenal in his first season, against Chelsea at their home ground of Stamford Bridge. He did take a break in 2011-2012 thanks to a broken long, but even when he came back he helped Arsenal beat Spurs 5-2; an impressive achievement by one’s standards. He played for the team until 2014, seeing them pick up the FA cup before he left the team for good. In total he made 284 appearances for the North London team – and even scored five goals during his time, which for a non-goal scoring position is pretty impressive.
He did loads to help the team during the 7 years that he played for them, but then when you have played nearly 300 times for a team that is expected. He became so well known for his solid defence that he earned the nickname ‘Mr Reliable’ with football fans. Many believe it is the goal scorers that make a team successful, but those that defend the goal from the opposition most definitely have their part to play. However, the main bonus for Arsenal was his diversity as a player and as well as some significant defence skills he was also to play at Centre Back when needed.
His Career Now
Sagna left Arsenal in 2014 and at the time signed for Man City; although he has since retired. He recently talked about the 2022 football season and what he thinks is in store for both teams in the future. He talked about the strength of the Arsenal team and how they are recruiting players based on specific skills – which seems to be working for them and is something that they are likely to continue to do throughout 2023. He says “It’s a solid team, a very well-structured team. We have to give Mikel [Arteta] great credit because he took the criticism on his back and he always put the team first. He is now overseeing the building of an excellent Arsenal team for what has always been a fantastic football club. I feel Arsenal can be the main competition to Man City for the Premier League title, who of course remain the very strong favourites.”
When you consider that Sagna has played successfully for both teams, he probably is in the best position to say how they’ll fare; but that said when it comes to Premier League betting, anything goes!
