For the second time today, cross-Solent operator Hovertravel has had to suspend its service in its entirety due to a technical problem.
It was at around 08:30 this morning (Monday) that Island Flyer had to be pulled from service due to an unknown issue arising, which led to the suspension of the Ryde-Southsea service.
That issue was resolved by 09:15 but now, just 6 hours later, the hovercraft has once again been declared unserviceable.
Another technical fault has forced the cancellation of all crossings. There is no spare craft to fire up as Solent Flyer is currently undergoing under-the-covers repairs at Griffon Hoverwork.
Hovertravel says that an update will be provided at 16:00, although there is no guarantee services will resume at this time.
Tickets are currently being accepted on Wightlink’s Fastcat service between Ryde Pier Head-Portsmouth Harbour.
Last month it was revealed that Hovertravel is cutting its services, both in the Winter and the Summer, in response to financial pressures. It’s thought around 17 staff members have also been made redundant.
UPDATE @ 16:40 – Services remain suspended, with an update not expected until 17:00.
It means that the busy commuter period is now being affected.
UPDATE @ 17:34 – Services will resume at 17:55 from Ryde, it has been confirmed.
Does anything work on this island!
You clearly don’t with the amount of time you spend on here.
