UPDATED: Firefighters are this morning (Friday) attending a house fire at a property in Love Lane, Cowes.
3 appliances – 2 from Newport and 1 from Cowes – are on the scene off Mill Hill Road, where the top floor of a terraced property is said to be alight.
The Incident Control Unit from Newport is also in attendance.
Crews are currently using breathing apparatus and a hose feel to tackle the blaze, which is thought to have started in an upstairs bedroom.
Emergency services were alerted to the incident shortly before 06:25.
UPDATE @ 08:00 – The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have successfully brought this morning’s blaze under control, although significant damage has been caused to the entire first floor.
2 people have been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation.
Crews remain on scene damping down and investigating the cause of the fire. Police are now also on scene.
At the height of the incident smoke could be seen from East Cowes on the other side of the River Medina.
