LADIES 1XI NARROWLY BEATEN BY BASINGSTOKE
Islanders edged out in tight encounter despite strong defence and several attacking chances.
The Isle of Wight Ladies 1XI suffered a narrow 1–0 defeat to Basingstoke in a closely fought contest.
With the continued disruption of having no home pitch and limited training time, the Islanders started slowly against a well-organised Basingstoke press. Early pressure resulted in several short corners, but the defensive unit of Emily Lord, Jaimie Payne, Claire Caddick, Hannah Pocock, Dani Devenish and Saffron Hart remained composed to clear the danger.
As the half progressed, Isle of Wight began to settle. The midfield quartet of Mia Lawrence, Polly Rider, Sophie Parkhouse and Lizzie Dodds linked play well, working neat passing moves down the left.
Goalkeeper Blue produced an outstanding display, making several key saves – including a penalty flick stop – to keep the match level.
After the break, the Islanders applied sustained pressure and won several short corners, but efforts from Payne, Hart and Rider were blocked by determined defending. Parkhouse also came close after a strong run.
Despite Island’s momentum, Basingstoke struck with a well-worked move finished at the back post.
Late cards reduced the Islanders’ numbers, but the defence held firm to prevent further goals.

MEN’S 2XI BATTLE HARD AGAINST TROJANS
Islanders fight back but fall short after difficult start.

Despite the disadvantage, the Islanders defended bravely before Trojans eventually broke through with a scrappy opener.
Once the remaining players arrived, Isle of Wight quickly responded. Toby Noyes found Rupert King, who fed Thomas Young to finish confidently and level the match.
Trojans regained the lead before Island produced a flowing move to make it 2–2. Peter McClelland found Mike Dodds on the right, whose quick one-two set up Carl Joyce to lift the ball over the goalkeeper.
