Ryde is set to lose one of its longest trading businesses at the end of the month with the announcement that Hobbs, the jewellers, is to close.
The High Street store opened back in 1946 and has been a firm favourite in the town ever since, but after some 71 years the Hobbs family have decided to close the shutters for good.
The last trading day will be Thursday 31st August.
Any customers with items put by or in for repair will be contacted in the coming days to discus the options available.
In a statement issued yesterday (Saturday), Robert Hobbs said:
“I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to those loyal customers, as well as other local business’ that have supported us over the last 70 years.
“In addition, we must pay tribute to our fantastic staff, not just those with us now but throughout our time in Ryde. It has been a privilege to serve the town alongside them”.
A closing down sale will begin tomorrow (Monday).
