The IW Volunteer Centre, Community Action Isle of Wight and Department are working in collaboration to put on a new event to showcase some of the Island’s fantastic museums and heritage organisations and the work volunteers are doing in keeping our heritage alive.
The Heritage Fair will take place on Saturday (4th March) and will give Islanders the opportunity to find out about how the museums and heritage organisations work and how to get involved.
It is being held at Department (former Elizabeth Pack’s) on Cross Street in Ryde between 11:00-15:00.
Sandy Ciccognani, IW Volunteer Centre Manager, says:
“In my role as Volunteer Centre Manager at Community Action IW, I have had the pleasure to go and visit some of these museums and heritage centres and am always blown away by the extent of knowledge being preserved and the passion shared for our heritage by a relatively small group of people. This event will help to showcase some of them and build connections with the wider community.
“Come by yourself or bring the whole family down. For some it will be a time for reminiscing, for others a time to discover new things about the place where they live or the things that they love.
“You may even be inspired to volunteer some of your time or specialist skills to one of these groups. There won’t be any pressure to sign you up as a volunteer, but if you do want to support these organisations, your time is something that will be much appreciated”.
