Engineers are working on the Cowes Floating Bridge this lunchtime (Wednesday) as the service is suspended yet again.
The troubles continue for the East Cowes to Cowes crossing with today’s suspension the latest in the long-running saga surrounding Floating Bridge No.6.
It is understood the issue relates to the hydraulic ram on one of the vessel’s prows.
Council officials are yet to issue a statement and it remains unclear how long the chain ferry will remain out of action for. It is currently pulled up on the East Cowes side of the River Medina.
A foot passenger launch service is in operation.
UPDATE @ 14:45 – The Cowes floating bridge is now back in service – but for how long?

Cut loss and commission a refurbishment of the old one.
How much longer is this sick fiasco going to drag on, remove the wreck and just have the launch then at least people would have a reliable way of crossing the river.
Please headline when it is working.
That is like seeing pigs fly , very rarely!
now you have the people who signed off the bridge back at county hall maybe they will finish the job they started
It would be breaking news, if this peice of junk worked with no problems for at least a week
For goodness sake why is it not being taken to a reputable company for fixing. Now we are
paying again for the launch, surely this must classify as misuse of taxpayers money
When on earth are they going to realise there isn’t a sticking plaster big enough to fix this heap of junk …
A body bag is needed for this ….then give it a burial at sea ….
Or sell it for scrap worth a lot more than now….and save us poor cash cows a fortune…..
This FB6 fiasco is one of the reasons the previous arrogant Council had their comeuppance at the recent Local Council elections with the Public giving a vote on their handling of this craft.
Also, why do they not turn the “Out of Service” noticeboards which are placed around the Island, when the craft is broken down ?
This fiasco has gone on long enough. Islanders council tax is being wasted on CONSTANT repair bills. Surely an enquiry must be instigated to look into this huge problem
Yep, but no one will fall on there sword or take an ounce of responsibility, nothing but total apathy!
Protests i can c happening
I have a tenner on its out of service within 11 days
As long as that ????
Pushing it ….
Whoops they did it again fixing it then fixing again fixing it then Fixing again
Fixing it then fixing it again.
SOUND FAMILIAR?
Reminds me of an old film I watched a few years back.
What was it?
Just remembered ‘Never ending story!
This is like a bad BBC TV repeat, old, dated and should be scrapped. Get rid of the damn thing.
Give it to the navy for target practice
