A gull with a hook embedded in its mouth was rescued from Cowes Enterprise College yesterday (Tuesday), thanks to quick action by staff, Friends of the Animals and Carisbrooke Vets.
The bird was discovered with the hook lodged in its beak, prompting a call for assistance. Staff at the college managed to catch the injured gull and one member of staff wrapped it securely in her fleece while waiting for help to arrive.
The bird was taken to Carisbrooke Vets, where it was sedated and the hook was carefully removed. It has since been nicknamed ‘Lucky’.
Following the procedure, the gull was collected and transferred to Claire at Skippers Sanctuary, who agreed without hesitation to take the bird in for rehabilitation.
A Friends of the Animals spokesperson has said:
“Please be mindful when disposing of hooks to ensure that no wildlife suffers.
The gull is now receiving care and is expected to recover fully.
