Shanklin Voluntary Youth & Community Centre (VYCC) and Shanklin FC are celebrating after receiving a Green Flag Award – an international quality mark for parks and green spaces.
After 2 years that have seen our parks and green spaces play a vital role for people through lockdowns as a place to relax, exercise, and meet friends and family safely, the news that Shanklin Voluntary Youth & Community Centre has achieved the Green Flag Award is testament to the hard work and dedication of the team that makes the green space a great space that everyone can enjoy.
Isle of Wight High Sheriff, Mrs Kay Marriott JP, said:
“Congratulations to all involved with Shanklin VYCC, Football Club and Green Town Volunteers, for maintaining so much of the Public Realm in Shanklin, and for raising the standard for the benefit of residents and volunteers.”
Keep Britain Tidy’s Accreditation Manager, Paul Todd, adds:
“I would like to congratulate everyone involved in making Shanklin sites worthy of a Green Flag Award. The County Ground, Youth Centre, Memorial, Library, and Railway Station are vital green spaces for the community on the Island. This award is testament to all the hard work of staff and volunteers, who do so much to ensure that it maintains the high standards demanded by the Green Flag Award.”
Paul Biddlecombe, Chair of SVYCC and ex-Shanklin FC Manager concluded:
“Shanklin’s fortunate to have so many volunteers looking after community spaces, and providing quality spaces for activities such as football, cricket, bowls, as well as the recreational activities at Shanklin VYCC.”

MONEY FOLLOWS MONEY.
IW Council sort Sandown out now !
No please or thank you, just do your f’n JOB !
Obviously not enough free masons or rotary club members here.
STC should RESIGN on mass !
And please stop hiding behind the fact that you are all volunteers,
you are still s**t at your job and po36 would be better off without you.
I thought this item was about Shanklin, but my eyes aren’t what they used to be.
No doubt TTfT is a selfless contributor to community effort in Sandown/Shanklin/wherever he/she adorns.
