Island Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers together with their Leaders attended an exclusive Girlguiding film screening of the eagerly awaited, Matilda the Musical at the weekend.
All the Island members were among thousands of Girlguiding members who attended the mass screenings held on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th December, at 103 ODEON cinemas across the UK and here, at Leo Leisure’s Commodore Ryde with thanks to the local management.
This new and exciting movie is an adaptation of the Tony and Olivier award-winning musical, based on Roald Dahl’s childhood
Nearly 400 children from the Girlguiding movement in, enjoyed visiting their local cinema and watching the new film with fellow Girlguiding members from across their area. To add to the cinema experience refreshments were arranged by leaders and following the film the draw for a fundraising raffle took place. This draw was raising funds for young Island members who will be undertaking international trips.
Linda Stone, Island Commissioner said:
“The girls had a great time at the special screening, there were so many of us that two screens had to be used and the Commodore was buzzing. I love that Girlguiding gives girls the chance to experience exciting opportunities like this, especially when so many have missed out on the things and opportunities they enjoy because of the Covid-19 pandemic. It was wonderful to see the smiles on all their faces.”
A special Matilda’s Mighty Movie badge has also been created for Girlguiding members to mark the event in true Girlguiding style.
Girlguiding gives girls and young women a space where they can be themselves, have fun and adventure, make new friends and learn new skills through its core programme of badges and activities, events and opportunities.
