Rookley Village Association has confirmed the return of its popular ‘Gardening Galore’ event, taking place next Sunday (4th May).
This well-loved event is a staple of the Isle of Wight’s horticultural calendar, with stallholders from across the Isle of Wight offering plants, supplies, and gardening inspiration. All sellers are locally based, supporting growers, nurseries, and suppliers from the Island.
Entry and parking are completely free, with the convenience of adjacent parking so visitors can drop off purchases and continue browsing with ease.
Refreshments will be available inside the Village Hall, where the Rookley Women’s Institute will be serving up homemade cakes and drinks throughout the day.
Locals and visitors alike are encouraged to come along, meet fellow enthusiasts, and perhaps discover that perfect plant they didn’t know they needed.
Excellent event, it grows on you.
I am the Grandson of Mr George Wratten, who then lived at 4, Hope Cottages, Howgate Lane as it was then. George was a professional gardener and in his spare time cultivated the now famous Howgate Wonder apple. This apple has been in the Guinness book of records many times in the past and is a firm favourite with many of the top chef’s. It is also used in many fruit drinks and also cider. If anyone would like to contact me regarding this apple and my Grandad, please contact the Editor of the Island Echo who will pass on my e-mail address.
