The long-delayed Ryde Interchange scheme has been extended again with works not now expected to be completed until 14th July.
It was originally said that work, which began in April 2022, would be complete by Spring 2023 with Island Roads publicising a date of 31st March.
However, as previously reported by Island Echo, the works were beset by delays and completion was not expected until June.
Now, the works are set to drag into the 3rd week of July, with 14th July now the expected completion date – just a week or so before the Summer holidays begin.

Island Roads. Keeping down the standards. Well done.
They want the overtime.
Being paid Loads money for doing f**k all
That’s a Surprise absolutely waste of money they gave Wightlink money from the grant to build a coverd walk way and by the look of it it’s not going to be coverd
It’s not a waste though is it. Did you not see the state of it before it was started? A flipping embarrassment.
island drivers and a new interchange now that’s going to be funny to watch you lot have trouble with a simple roundabout
Sorry to say you absolutely right. State of the driving on this rock.
Have you been to the mainland recently?
It’s like Europe now.
So true. So many idiots on the Island do not know what
white Give Way markings are there for.
The Caulkheads need to re-take their driving tests in the real world.
Let them take their tests in Pompey
This is a disgrace, if they worked when they turned up it would have been finished in the spring!! Are they paying penalties for there failings? Why do we put up with this, they have come up with every excuse in the book for not completing on time and the dummies at the council support them, shame on all of them. These constant extensions are costing business along the seafront!
This is the problem, Dave, no penalties and no one there in charge, it seems, kicking asses for their lax deliverance.
Councillor Jordan should be held accountable for the waste of money.
It also looks sh*t.
It is now dangerous and what about the new seats
not made for F*t Ar*es.
All in All another island balls up.
When will this Council develop a brain.
What a useless bunch of B’*tards they are.
Given the short hours they actually work it is hardly surprising and was predicted by both locals and bus staff
Island Roads vehicles usually pull up in Island Car Parks early in the afternoon
overlooking the sea.
Majority of the shirkers only work to lunchtime then that is it.
Paid until 5pm though.
Island Roads employees are unaccountable due to lack of management.
It is the embodiment of public sector quality – in their eyes a runaway success but to the poor unfortunate taxpayer funding it, a miserable looking mess with vehicle access from the pier downright dangerous and everything else looking like it has been drawn up by a small child with a crayon and 20 minutes to spare – give it a year and it will start to blend in nicely with their other major ‘regeneration’ successes in east Cowes and Sandown
Arrogant drivers leaving the pier are already trying to push their way into traffic that has right of way coming round the roundabout. Another ass idea of a junction, which will cause collisions due to the dangerous design, just like the idea of putting zebra crossing right on crossroads and junctions where you are looking what’s coming rather than people on the crossing. Who designs this crap, and who passes it?
Those with big pockets Gaz!! The backhanders are standard skills for councillors on the island. There should be penalty clauses in the contract for delays as most LA’s with an iota of intelligence would include and a freedom of information request needs putting in IE! IOW backwards thinking as always.
probably the same people who thought motorways without a hard shoulder were a good idea – they were told no, but they thought they knew better and the unfortunate consequences they were warned about, have come to pass.
Consultants and planners with degrees and computers, but no common sense sadly.
It is a disaster waiting to happen.
Just wait for a drug or drink driver driving off the Pier.
What Moron designed this attrocity,
should be Sacked with immediate effect.
I have never seen such a poor infrastructure
What has this achieved apart from new paving? It worked OK before. Taxi rank is much further from the station now. The good little shops have gone too.
And they talk about building a bridge
The Cowboys on the Island couldn’t fill a pothole yet alone build a bridge.
Everything on the Island overruns.
The Island could not organise a p*ss up in a Brewery if the venue
was arranged and the booze laid on.
What a useless bunch of F*ckers!
Perhaps sometime after the Christmas/New Year break?
What year 2023, 2024 or 2025
The Island are useless at doing anything
Point one: The vehicles turning sharp left from the end of the pier can’t see the traffic lights, which will evdntually lead to a nasty accident
Point two: Shame on the contractors for their complete disinterest in delivering on time. People no longer have any pride in their work anymore. So sad, but just a sign of the times, I guess
One of the objectives was to reduce the dominance of the motor car.
When you drive east towards the pier you are met with a barrage of road signs obscuring the view of the whole esplande. There are aleast 8 roads signs in 20 metres as well as the pier exit and the crossing. It looks really terrible.
No wonder there was no artists impression of the view looking east.
They knew it was complete mess but pressed on regardless
It looks like It was designed for European Roads
Maybe it’s ready for when Starmer takes us back into Europe
When he is voted in.
All this disruption, many tourist seasons ruined and for what eh? A badly designed scheme that is costing a fortune that nobody really wanted!
